Working out which version of QNAP’s QTS operating system is currently installed on your NAS may prove vital when making sure it’s running the latest release. In order to do just that, you’ll need to run through a few steps, but this guide will showcase just how easy it is to check your QTS OS version.
How to check QTS OS version
Checking the version of your QTS installation is as easy as following three simple steps:
- Log into your QNAP NAS.
- Open Control Panel.
- Go to System Settings > Firmware Update.
The version number will be listed next to “Current firmware version” with a link to check the digital signature. When an update is made available for QTS, the QNAP NAS is capable of automatically downloading the update. It’s also possible to manually install a release by downloading it from QNAP’s website.
How to update your QNAP NAS

There are two methods of installing a firmware update on a QNAP NAS. The first is automatically through QTS and the second is to perform a manual update. We always recommend configuring even the best NAS for automated firmware downloads to ensure you’re always running the latest release.
Automatic (recommended)
Here’s how to configure your QNAP NAS to automatically download the latest release of QTS:

- Select the auto update firmware version.
