How to find IP address of a Synology NAS

The IP address is an important piece of information to have at hand for your Synology NAS. It’s what will allow you to connect to the enclosure through other devices, be it the web admin UI or connecting via one of the activated protocols. This guide will show you how to find the IP address of your Synology NAS.

How to find the IP address of a Synology NAS

There are a few methods to locating the IP address of a Synology NAS. Which one works best for you depends on which device is available for locating the server.

Router

If you’re able to connect to your router web admin interface or through an available app, it will be able to show the IP address assigned to your Synology NAS. Simply go to a view where the router lists all the connected devices to the network and it should be present.

Synology Web Assistant

Synology Web Assistant makes connecting to a Synology NAS super simple. It requires nothing but your web browser and a few seconds of your time.

  1. Enter https://finds.synology.com into your address bar.
  2. Confirm the displayed NAS is your Synology NAS.
  3. The IP address will be listed next to the NAS.

  1. Download Synology Assistant for your OS.
  2. Open Synology Assistant.
  3. Click on your Synology NAS.
  4. The IP address will be listed next to the NAS.
  5. Click Connect to log into your NAS.

DiskStation Manager

If you have access to the NAS already, the IP address should be viewable in the address bar. If, for some reason, you’re unable to view it. There is a way to check the IP address assigned to the NAS within DSM.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Network.
  2. Click on the Network Interface tab.

Still can’t find your Synology NAS?

If you’re unable to locate the IP address of your Synology NAS and it’s not showing on Synology Assistant or Web Assistant, there are a few things you should try:

  • Make sure your Synology NAS is connected to the LAN and has an active internet connection.
  • Make sure your Synology NAS and computer are located on the same local area network and subnet.
  • Use a different browser (we recommend Firefox).
  • Adjust your firewall settings to allow Synology Assistant through.
  • Consider using a different CAT 5 cable and/or port.

If all else fails, I’d recommend reaching out to Synology for further assistance and a possible RMA.
