Synology adds 4-bay RS822+ to its rackmount NAS series

The best value rackmount NAS for the home?

Synology is announcing numerous new products for the summer and next in line is the RackStation RS822+ and RackStation RS822RP+. It’s another more cost-effective storage solution in the rackmount form factor from Synology, rocking an AMD processor and the ability to throw plenty of RAM inside.

Rackmount servers make more sense for businesses and enthusiasts at home who have cabinets available. The slimline chassis ensures you maximize internal space and manage thermals. The new RackStation RS822+ builds upon what we’ve seen already with the RS422+, but includes faster data transfer speeds.

With a four-core AMD Ryzen V1500B processor, it’s possible to achieve up to 2,103MB/s for sequential read on the best NAS drives installed. Then there’s the 2GB of preinstalled DDR4 RAM that can be expanded up to a whopping 32GB for heavy workloads. The four drive bays present inside the RS822+ allow for up to 80TB of data to be stored.

Should additional capacity be required, it’s possible to either utilize the RX418 expansion unit for an additional four bays or install an aftermarket 10Gb networking card (something usually reserved for the best NAS) using the available PCI slot. This server follows the Synology RackStation RS422+.

Whether you need somewhere to store business snapshots and backups or to record and save security footage, the RS822+ is capable of doing it all. The Synology RackStation RS822+ and RS822RP+ are available now for $999.99 and $1,299.99, respectively.
