Synology launches new Plus Series HDD family of NAS hard drives

Synology has announced another family of storage drives specifically designed for network-attached storage. The new Synology Plus Series HDD are a family of NAS drives with SATA interfaces and motors that can spin up to 7,200RPM if you opt for the drive with the highest capacity. With prices starting from $90, these are set to be slightly more affordable for NAS owners.

The company isn’t new to the storage game, having released enterprise-grade M.2 and 2.5-inch SSDs, as well as two HDD series. The Synology Plus Series HDD is designed for those who don’t require the absolute best-in-class enterprise storage solutions, something that’s a little more appealing to those with a NAS at home.

These new drives are among the best NAS drives in that they are rated to meet the requirements of 24/7 storage inside Synology-branded NAS. Just like some other branded 3.5-inch NAS drives, Syniology’s new family of storage boxes come with a rated one million hours of mean time between failures (MTBF) as well as 180TB of workload per year.

They’re Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) drives and as such are capable of hitting transfer rates of up to 240MB/s, which is impressive for a 12TB NAS hard drive. An added benefit of going with Synology’s own drives over third-party solutions is the ability to update them through DSM, eliminating the requirement to remove the drives.

The new drive range is available in four capacities, offering 4TB, 6TB, 8TB, and 12TB for NAS owners.
